I Ordered 48 Pairs of Edge Eyewear Edge Zorge G2 Safety Glasses. Here’s What I Learned.
The box arrived on a Tuesday
In February 2024, I signed for a delivery that looked perfect on paper. Forty-eight pairs of Edge Eyewear Edge Zorge G2 safety glasses, packed in a neat cardboard carton, with a packing slip that matched my purchase order.
Twenty minutes after I handed them out, the first complaint came back.
“These are sunglasses.”
I checked my own pair. The frame felt great. The anti-fog coating looked right. But the lens was not clear. It was a dark gray outdoor lens. - Anti-fog: is the coating on both sides? Ask for the test method.
- Fit: does the frame sit close enough to the face without pressure points?
- Spare parts: can I buy replacement lenses or temples?
Beyond glasses
The same logic applies to the rest of the crew’s gear. I switched them to Wrangler Riggs workwear after watching cheap work pants fall apart in six months. The Riggs line cost more upfront, but the double knees and heavier fabric held up long enough to make the cost-per-wear lower. To be fair, the cheap pants weren’t worthless—they just weren’t cheaper over time.

What was best practice in 2020 may not apply in 2025. The fundamentals, though, haven’t changed: use the right lens for the environment, check the certification, and don’t trust a screen.
People think expensive safety glasses are safer because they cost more. Actually, safety comes from certification and fit, not price. A budget pair that carries ANSI Z87.1+ and fits well can protect as effectively as a premium pair. Granted, premium frames often have better comfort and coatings. But the safety claim itself needs evidence.
No safety glass is indestructible. No single pair works for every job. The Edge Zorge G2 is a good product—for outdoor work. For our indoor warehouse, it was the wrong product, and that was my fault, not the product’s.
